SUN HIVE
Title (English): SUN HIVE
About the film:
Johannes Loris can’t remember how a swarm of bees hummed into his mind, but the beekeeper knows the shape of the future, and it’s definitely out of the box. ‘Sun Hive’ showcases the extraordinary farmer’s attempts to design a natural, and intelligent, habitat for the humble-bees, a keystone species in our food chain. The extended farm in the Swabian countryside of southern Germany is a school for anyone interested in sustainable farming at a time when beekeepers around the world are struggling with colony collapses due to the effects of industrialization.

Gireesh Peruvana is an award-winning indie filmmaker whose works have been featured in international documentary festivals in Canada, Brazil, Russia and India. He has extensive experience in researching and documenting agricultural management and conservation practices which can build bridges to a sustainable future. Growing up in a country where the indigenous people asked for the queen bee’s permission before gathering wild honey, it was natural for him to drift towards a ‘Sun Hive’ built around the bee architecture.
