The Austrian film festival SUBURBINALE takes place at the eastern outskirts of Vienna, where the suburbs connect to the national park “Lobau”. We are hosted by the city of Groß-Enzersdorf, a small township 500 metres off the world city. We started out in 2017 and are very happy to move into our second season in 2018.

International filmmakers are welcome to share their views and stories on city expansion and the transitory areas between the urban and the rural. The festival wants to foster a inspiring dialogue about the challenges and chances of suburban life. We offer accomodation and traveling support, depending on our seasonal availability to filmmakers who are presenting their work at our festival.

We accept all cinematic forms. Be it narrative, documentary, essayistic or experimental. All filmmakers regardless of experience and budget are welcome to submit their works. To be seleced your work must have a connection to our central theme - "THE SUBURBAN."

As all cinemas in the area have been closed by now the festival appropriates places that have lost their function as its playing grounds. This establishes an expanded dialog between film, space and audience that goes beyond classical cinema offerings.

All submissions will be viewed by members of our international Jury.

Awards & Prizes

The SUBURNINALE is a non competitive festival.

All films chosen for the official selection will receive the "official selection" Laurel.
Our selection jury consists of international experts, and we ll try to get your film as much attention as possbible.

Rules & Terms

To be considered for our selection your film must have some connection to the "suburban."

English or German subtitles are required for all films not in German of English language.

All entries must be available for screening during the festival.

We accept submissions over Filmfreeway with online screeners to streamline the viewing process for our selection jury and stay as green as possible during the selection process.

Filmmakers retain 100% all of the rights to their projects and materials that they submit to the SUBURNINALE Festival, but the film festival organizers reserve the right to use excerpts from the submitted films for promotional purpose.

The SUBURBINALE is not a competitive festival, yet every film selected receives our “official selection” laurel.

All filmmakers selected by the festival will be asked to provide promotional materials, but we ask that no promotional materials be sent until selection.

All selections will be showcased and promoted at the festivals homepage and via social media.

As screening formats in 2018 we prefer digital files in h264 format or BLuray copies. As we are adopting spaces as temporary cinemas, we can not offer high end cinema projections ( dcp or analog film projection. )

By submitting to the festival, you agree to allow your submitted work to be screened by the festival during the festival run, for which you are submitting, at no charge to the festival.

We want to show as many films as possible. For all films chosen for the “official selection”, which can not be screened due to time restraints, we have an additional option. We organize several local film series where all sorts of films are screened for a regional audience. That includes a sequence of summer cinema events and our courtyard cinema, that brings movies to special locations. By submitting your work you grant permission to show it either at the festival or at one of the other venues. If you don’t want to be part of those series, please let us know.

By submitting, the filmmaker allows to advertise for them without infringing copyright of any kind of form and list them on social media platforms as well as our website. (www.suburbinale.com)

All fees are non-refundable.

The submitted film shall not imitate or plagiarize any copyrighted work. We require films to have all necessary rights and releases secured for us to feature them.

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless us, our officers, affiliates, employees, and partners from any and all claims and liability arising out of entering or transmitting your film to the SUBURBINALE Film Festival.

Dates and venues are subject to change if deemed appropriate by the festival.

If a festival selects two of our movies, we are very pleased. Our comedies PROVERBIAL LUCK and TWO TOO ODD entertained the kids. Good luck for the next edition! We will submit again! Follow us: http://fb.com/APEIRON-FILMS + https://twitter.com/APEIRON_FILMS

Although I couldn't attend the festival (they did their best to offer me lots of help, but I had to earn money), the communication and dedictaion of the festival was great and encouraging to keep submitting to 'beginners'
and I wish I had the opportunity to see most of their programme.
And hopefully go there next time!

Though I did not get to go to the festival. The communication with the festival was excellent, and I hope I can be involved in the future. Good amount of social media. Really worth entering.
