Private Project

SUBIRAN NAMON (Our Fishing Boat)

Bantayan Island - a pristine fishing village located in the Visayan Sea and Tañon Strait-  is rapidly undergoing change because of the presence of many private resorts. These resorts deprive the local residents of their livelihood and have displaced a number of families.

Jared and Salome are high school classmates whose families are affected by the development happening on their island. They too will have to vacate their homes to give way to a modern resort.

Jared is hell-bent on staying together with his mother. On the other hand, Salome accepts the fact that the only way out is to marry a foreigner and own a resort, a practice tolerated by families on the island. Jared does not approve of Salome’s decision. It reminds him of the fate of his mother who marries a foreigner then deserts her.

Conflict arises between Jared and Salome’s family who pushes her to marry a foreigner after high school to save them from their present predicament.

During a program in their school with their families and community members in attendance, Jared and Salome come up with an idea on how the fishing community can help each other to save the situation on their island.
