During wars and civil conflicts, thousands of political dissidents in Greece were exiled to Ai Stratis, the most isolated island of the Aegean Sea. Being far away from the surrounding islands and having no harbour, the volcanic island seemed to be the ideal place for imprisonment. Very few managed to escape while those who survived famine and disease kept resisting, hiding and sharing censored books to preserve knowledge. Bringing their own experience to the island, they created a new dimension considering exile not only a horrific challenge but also a path to freedom and light. Years after their liberation, some of the survivors kept returning to the island, wandering in the places that had left a mark on their memory.
