Writer Statement

There was a point in my life where I was playing as a semi-professional poker player while I was in between jobs.

It wasn't my only source of income, but it was pretty damn close. The "feast-or-famine" portion really started to affect how me and how I felt about the game.

Once I was inspired to write my first short screenplay, it only made sense to draw from those experiences.

I've had backers before. They've been good arrangements, but it's scary to think of how it could've been for the worse. STAKE is my attempt at exploring that possibility.

The other part is — I wanted to make a poker script that was actually accurate to the game and to its players.

I hope I've done that in an enjoyable way.
