SONS OF CAIN

Ireland, 1935, and working class, Dingle-born Geary brothers — Garrett and Judah — embark for America with dreams of hanging steel from the sky and framing a better life for themselves.

But when a mysterious woman unleashes an ancient curse before they go that freezes the brothers in time, the Geary world tumbles into complications that could take eternity to untangle.

Half a century later, wealthy, powerful, unaging Garrett has used the curse to his advantage, fearing only discovery.

For his part, Judah is adrift, miserable, doomed to shuffle through time at the mercy of his brother, desperate to be free of the curse.

Salvation for both men comes in the form of Avery Peake, a whip-smart, San Francisco-based geneticist in pursuit of the Genesis Gene, the elusive — some scientists say fictional — key to curing all disease.

But while time is frozen for the Gearys, the clock is running out for Avery who desperately needs funding to bring her life-changing science to the market.

Grounded in San Francisco and set against backdrops like The Troubles, the building of the Golden Gate Bridge, and the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and more, SONS OF CAIN is an epic tale that can be described as a chapter from Joseph Campbell’s Hero With A Thousand Faces with the Human Genome Project as its backdrop.

Brainy, full of wonder, pragmatic, numinous, and — at its core — a love story, SONS OF CAIN takes its mysteries as seriously as it takes its science, and makes no final decision about the ability of either to fully explain our existence.

SONS OF CAIN was recently selected as a Top 50 submission in the ISA Network Fast Track Fellowship Competition 2023.
