SONJO; No One Left in Despair
SONJO (Sambatan Jogja) is an online-based social capital focusing on helping vulnerable people and people at risk of being affected by COVID-19, in the province of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. SONJO has operated since 24 March 2020 with about 2300 members distributed among 30 WhatsApp groups (WAGs). Of the 30 WAGs, 24 of them are WAGs for people in Yogyakarta, and 6 of them are joint WAG with communities and firms outside of Yogyakarta (Jakarta, Central Java, West Java, OKU Timur (Sumatera), and Central Sulawesi). SONJO has 14 programs in health and 8 programs in economy.

Fitri Amalia is the Head of Learning and Academic Multimedia Production Unit Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Gadjah Mada (LAMP FEB UGM). Fitri and LAMP FEB UGM have directed and produced more than 80 academic and documentary videos in the past year. LAMP FEB UGM strives to deliver knowledge and promote societal impact through audio-visual works.
Sambatan Jogja (SONJO) aims to help vulnerable people during the Covid-19 pandemic through social capital innovation. With integrity, transparency, empathy, and synergy, SONJO ensures that no one is left in despair during this difficult time. SONJO flagship health and economic programs collaborated with all elements of the community in tackling the Covid-19 pandemic in Yogyakarta. This documentary film highlights the powerful impact of social capital innovation through online platforms in minimising the effect of Covid-19 and empowering society.
