Writer Biography - Shauna Stanley, Travis Stanley

(Travis Stanley)
Travis' love for filmmaking began during his teenage years.  Growing up in Atlanta, his favorite past time was watching documentaries and behind the scene specials to gain a better understanding of his future craft.  After high school, Travis attended American Intercontinental University in pursuit of a Bachelor in Fine Arts for Media Production degree.  After graduation, he secured positions at Georgia Public Broadcasting/PBS and Encompass Media, a third party affiliate to KGO TV/ABC - San Francisco and BBC America. He now works at Fox Sports/SBG. But his latest venture is initiating Rude Awakening Pictures, an Atlanta-based production company with his wife, Shauna. As a husband and wife writing/producing team, they have received several accolades including their past win at the Atlanta Comedy Film Festival (Best Georgia Screenplay). Travis draws inspiration from his previous experiences, wife, and their fun-loving five-year-old, Jade.

(Shauna Stanley)
Shauna’s first writing project was a published work in The Library of Congress’ national registry when she was ten years old. She continued writing throughout grade school learning to bridge the gap between her love of writing and the performing arts. She is an accomplished singer/songwriter, dancer, and actress. While living in Tampa, Florida, Shauna worked as a spokesperson for the Straz Center for the Arts’ Patel Conservatory where she appeared on their television commercial, pamphlets, and billboard. In order to learn the “business” side of the entertainment industry, Shauna applied and was accepted to the Joel A. Katz Music and Entertainment Business Program while pursuing her accounting degree at Kennesaw State University. She was encouraged by her department chair, Keith Perissi, to continue her writing pursuits. He introduced her to writer/director Rhonda Baraka (“Pastor Brown” - Lifetime, “Trinity Goodheart” - UP TV) who soon became her next professor. Shauna currently resides in Atlanta as a grad student, actress and producer helping other writers transition from script to film.

As a husband and wife writing team, Travis & Shauna Stanley have received several accolades in renowned film festivals:

Writer Statement

SMDH is a reflection of our lives at a certain time. Our focus is to highlight the contrasts of maintaining a professional demeanor, but not quite having it together behind closed doors. We are influenced by quirky sitcoms and characters; our protagonist, Julie, is a bit of Liz Lemon (30 Rock) mixed with Joan (Girlfriends). Her college bestie, Spicy, is the latina spitfire and comic relief we all need, posthumously based on a former room mate to honor our friendship.
