Director Biography - Charles Opong

Charles was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. The son of Ghanian parents, Charles identifies as a Ghanian-American born citizen of the United States. With film credits in Accra, Ghana, and Los Angeles, California, Charles understands the international and diverse approach to film representation for African people, African American people, and Black people from the diaspora. His film credits include Peter J. Eaton's Necessary Evil starring Danny Trejo (2008). With more than 20 credits total which includes, writing, acting directing, cinematography, producing, key grip, and show running, Charles's on and off-screen production qualities include but are not limited to television, film, commercials, print, voice-overs, and web content. Charles graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Communications from California State University Dominguez Hills in 2012. In May of 2015, he earned his Masters of Educational Psychology from Pepperdine University's Graduate School of Education & Psychology. He is projected to graduate in 2021 with his Ph.D. in Global Leadership & Change from Pepperdine University's Graduate School of Education & Psychology. Charles acts, writes, directs, shoots cinematography, produces film, produces theatrical stage plays, and hosts television and mixed media web content. Charles teaches and constructs the combination of film education, critical race theory, and critical media analysis. His primary research focus is on Black Representation in FIlm.

His stage roles include John Polk in 'Am I Blue', and Mookie in 'Do The Right Thing'. His inspiration for filmmaking includes Ava Duvernay, John Singleton, John Landis, Spike Lee, Michael Mann, Denzel Washington, Tyler Perry, Oscar Micheaux, and Martin Scorcese, to name a few.
