Weiyi Xu is Beijing based TV screenwriter, Shasha is her first short film.
There are two motives for me to shoot this film. One is that the frequent domestic violence cases against women and children has aroused strong social concern. Among those cases, violence is particularly harmful to children. Secondly, in my childhood, I also witnessed the occurrence of domestic violence. I hope to reach reconciliation with myself by expressing my deep fear. At the same time, I also hope to let those audiences who have been treated with violence and still can't get out of their inner shadow find an outlet for release.
In addition, I chose to add cult and thrilling elements into this short film because it would be more attractive to the audience. Meanwhile, telling this story from the perspective of children is also because the audience has a congenital love for children, and there is a sharp contrast between violence and children's innocence, which will give the film a better impression.
This would be a short film which suitable for all ages and all gender groups. The tone of the film is quite fantastic and closely combined with social reality. If my film can arouse social attention and deeply thinking, there by to reduce the incidence of domestic violence, the world will become a little better -- this is one of my original intentions to become a filmmaker.
