Seyeong Yoon is an artist who explores the sensitisation of process and context, improvisation and intuition. Influenced by Fluxus, Bergson, and Stockhausen, he works with video, sound, text, and installation to experience alternative perceptions.
His background of travelling across four continents and interacting with people from global cultural backgrounds, as well as his concern about the current state of over-generalisation and biased information intake, has led him to develop a keen interest in context and process, rather than the outcome itself. As a former commercial film director, the artist focuses on empirical research and expression that allows him to focus on context and process through the relationship between audiovisual information. Through the series <Video-Music Jamming>, <MADNESS>, and <Prepared Video, Sound>, the artist has not only experimented with genre challenges in media, especially in the past four years, but also seriously considered the relationship between video and music, their ontological characteristics, and the concept of improvisation. Through intuitive improvisation, the artist subverts the dogmatic set-up and limitations of a genre, especially temporal art, and proposes perceptual and methodological alternatives.
