POETRY PERFORMANCES (2022-24) SIZZLE REEL
‘Lee Campbell’s creative practice can be said to be truly international with shows across Europe and the USA. His work fuses several different disciplines with a mix of spoken word poetry, video, and sketch books which culminate in a creatively unique synthesis. He uses this backdrop to explore issues of identity and what it means to be an LGBT person across the span of his lifetime, with perspectives of then (in the moment of the past) and now (looking back) in an elegant and subtle mix. His multimedia work, merging stories of experience and discovery of identity, and also his fluctuating relationship with his dog, Rufus, with beautiful collections of drawings presented as scrapbook like sketch books, gave as always a unique and engaging experience as much performance of body and drawing as of words. The work's presentation made subjects such as sexuality and sexual practices accessible, in a witty, warm way.'
