Ricardo Torres (Caguas, Puerto Rico 1998) began his career in the film industry as a screenwriter. He studied Communications in the University of the Sacred Heart in Puerto Rico. However, it was during a transformative screenwriting course that he unearthed his true calling for storytelling.
"Ruptura" is his first short film, which he not only penned but also directed and produced. Through this film, Ricardo endeavors to amplify his distinctive afro-Latino perspective by shinning a spotlight on stories and experiences from his home that resonate with audiences on a global scale.
For his future work, he intends to write stories that delve into the Puerto Rican experience by exploring themes of identity and independence.
"Ruptura" explores the fact that every person is capable of causing harm. Through Pablo, the main character, that instinct or perverse impulse that lives within every human being is unveiled. Just as the mental deterioration and anxiety that follow the act are highlighted. The audience will become accomplices to what has happened and will bear the weight of the secret, just like Pablo.
The film also portrays the crisis of gendered violence in Puerto Rico and the perpetrators who manage to hide their true nature.
"Ruptura" is a short film with unexpected revelations and moments of anxiety that will resonate with lovers of thrillers and murder mysteries.
