Rujindiri's descendants/ The mother and her daughter

Lucie descended from Rujindiri, the most famous and the master of umuduri who ever lived in Rwanda. Umuduri was a traditional Rwandan musical instrument that they played mostly to please kings and their entourage, especially during big ceremonies. Now, Lucie and her daughter walk the streets of Kigali every day playing Umuduri as a way of making a living. Despite being made fun of in the streets by people who call them names especially claiming that no one ever gets rich from playing umuduri, they do not give up, this s their passion and is in their blood. The 2 have to take from where their ancestors left off.

I, myself have a background in music and I was I dancer when I was young. I have always been fascinated by stories about people who play traditional instruments. When I was walking in my neighborhood I came across Lucie and her daughter playing instruments and singing. I asked them if I could make a short film about their journey to traditional music and they accepted. I grabbed the camera and followed them.
