Writer Biography - Andrew J Rodriguez

Andrew J Rodriguez is a Dominican-American Filmmaker who was born and raised in The Bronx. He’s always has had a love for storytelling but never saw it as something tangible for a first generation Dominican-American. After directing his first three films at Manhattan Film Institute, he went on to pursue a degree in film at SUNY Purchase. He graduated SUNY Purchase in 2019 with a BFA in Film. He is also the 2019 recipient of Tribeca's Sloan Discovery Award with his pilot PLUS. Along with SUNY Purchase’s 2016 Sophomore Documentary Award with his short documentary In the Quiet and 2017 Miriam Arsham Film and Acting Award with his following project, Missing Colors.

Andrew aims to tell the stories of people of color that transcend beyond their identity while simultaneously embracing it.
"The stories of people of color are more than just the stories of racism, pain, and prejudice. Although films of racism and prejudice are important, they aren’t our only stories"
