IAIN RAPHAEL BONG
My initial motivation in making Rue (2021) was to explore and experiment with the possibilities of filmmaking with the little resources we had access to from where we are. Having the desire to want to tell stories for the cinema, Darell presented me with a film idea that was both simple yet important in today's society. I felt it was relatable.

For us, we firmly believe that it is important to have representation on screen. To be able to present a human condition that is relatable universally, but at the same time told through the lens of an Asian perspective. Coming from the land of Borneo, we wanted to show that we are not all that different; we have stories to tell as well.

DARELL GALWYN
Rue (2021) is a story that is inspired by true events that happened. The idea came to me a year before I pitched to an old friend. I thought it could be a potential ground for talented individuals I know to collaborate and create something, while at the same time scouting for talents.

Being passionate about films, I wanted to see something similar happen around me, and there isn’t much of it. Because of that, I set out to make something. It was a challenge given that we had limited resources, but we did our best in doing justice to the story. This journey has definitely sparked something in me.
