Rubaru
In his audio recording, Charles shares the beauty and the ugliness of his life. How there can be such joy and such despair in the same moments? As he journeys through his story it becomes evident that something is tormenting him.

As a young up-and-coming independent director and writer, Marco has quickly established himself as a storyteller with a profound intentionality in his works that pierce intensely personal stories while exposing flawed societal norms and expectations. As a director, he has directed four short films that focus on the darker side of human nature of death, lose of a loved one and as a first time director tackling the story of a man wrestling with depression and anxiety in Rubaru (2020).
He graduated with his bachelor in Cinema Media Arts with an emphasis in production in the end of 2019 completing the feature in January and has begun writing his next project.
Marco's passion for storytelling began as a young child participating in theater at the local level and writing short stories. Over the span of the past sixteen years he studied classic films and attended the Turner Classic Film Festival for five years.
Rubaru is by far the most personal story I have written and directed. Over the past three years studying filmmaking I had decided to push myself from the longest piece being a little shy of 20 mins back in 2017 and wanted to challenge myself as a storyteller.
I had recently experienced in the past few years a severe depression and loss of a relationship. I wanted to do a piece that originally was personal but also that others could easily relate with. Our film's title comes from the Hindi language that means 'face to face' draws attention to the need for human connection. Truly the best part of the film-making process was discovering such talented actors and crew that brought the film to life both narratively and visually.
