Bruce Bradbury graduated from one year of technical film study and application from the Randolph Technical Career Center (RTCC) program for Digital Filmmaking in Vermont in 2017. There, he learned the fundamentals of camera operation, lighting, editing and studio work. Currently, he works in Portland, OR as a freelance filmmaker.
With a passion for eventually getting into big business narrative film production, "Rooftops" is Bruce Bradbury's most recent project.
This project was a lot of fun. Filmed in 2 days during my vacation in NYC, I assembled the crew over the internet and everyone was stoked to be a part of it. Half the crew is from NYC and the other half from all over New England. This project was an improv exercise, with most of the dialogue being improvised, but the ingeniously laid out story structure and situations by Zavier Henderson, the main writer on this project, made it a lot easier for us to work in those spaces.
I was following the tutelage of great Neo-realist filmmakers such as Zavattini and De Sica; that a film can simply be a capturing of non-actors performing in a familiar space with familiar subject material (Except for Tim Cox. Tim was an acting genius).
Additionally, this film was an ode to a dear friend of Henderson and I, who departed the comforts of home to find bigger college and musical opportunities in Australia. We were all very happy for him, but all felt a serious discomfort throughout the last night we spent together. This film was a goal to capture that experience.
We all hope the film is enjoyable and there can be something to take away from it.
