Brenna Malloy was born and raised in Long Beach, California. She graduated from the University of San Francisco after earning a BA in Media Studies with a minor in Theater. During this time, Brenna also had the opportunity to travel abroad to Drama Centre London, where she spent two terms studying acting and directing and cultivating her passion for visual storytelling. At Chapman University's Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, Brenna continued her education by earning an MFA in Film Production with an emphasis in directing. As a director, Brenna prides herself on her attention to subtle storytelling detail, her focus on performance, and passion for bringing female characters with depth to the big screen. She endeavors to tell stories close to the heart, while at the same time aiming to reach a wide audience with each film. Her thesis film "Rocket" has won a 2016 Student Academy Award, an Individual Merit Award for Best Director at the Richmond International Film Festival, awards in China, the UK, and multiple festivals in the United States.
To me, racing has always been about the senses. The roar of the engines, the smell of the gasoline, the taste of the dirt in the air, and the spectacle of danger. My perspective of racing has always been as a spectator, never as someone behind the wheel. Not many young girls have had the opportunity to race. This was my opportunity to explore the complex emotions of not only a driver, but of a woman racer in the 1950s. It is my hope to share this cinematic experience with others and encourage this new generation of women to go further than experiencing what they love as a spectator.
