Experiencing Interruptions?

Road Angel | Documentary

Cristian is a kid from a rural highland area in Peru, called Abra Malaga, located between Cusco and a world-renowned historic site, Machu Picchu. His playground is nature and the vast landscape surrounded by mountains, but his most common place to hang out is the road that runs by his home. The road is a powerful character in the film that connects Cristian with the outside world. The film follows our character and his livelihood without attempting to intrude or to find out his life details and its objective is to remain simply as a guest and observe it at a distance with an open mind.

Director Statement

When I was a child, we used to visit father's family in small towns in Estonia. On the way, I'd see villages or isolated homes situated by the road, in the middle of the field, or hidden in the distant woods. I have always been curious to know what was life like there far from cities in these homes. In my recent trip to Peru, the curiosity returned as we travelled a lot across the country. I met Cristian and his family on the way to Machu Picchu which resulted in making a documentary and subconsciously fulfilling my curiosity.
