Rise of the Phoenix

Held captive by her extended family after the demise of her father, a young Ajabu must choose between following through with bizarre community ritual of female genital mutilation or try to escape it all. In the burial of her late father, her mother; who is from another community, is chased away and Ajabu coerced into staying back in the village so as to undergo a procedure that will make her a woman. She however witnesses her cousin pass on following the same procedure and Ajabu makes efforts to escape the fatal act who in turn has to back on her curiosity, overactive imagination and determination to find her dispelled mother who has always been the model woman for her and beacon of hope, unaware that the same act is also practiced in her mother’s community. Her course and journey prove an ordeal as well as she faces in extremis experiences that consequently serves to make her a stronger young woman.
