Private Project

Museum Alive with David Attenborough

Bring prehistoric extinct animals back to life, with this breathtaking mixed reality experience. See a Dimorphodon fly out of your window or discover what lies under the skin of a fearsome Sabre-toothed tiger.

Rise of Animals is a breathtaking mixed reality experience for Magic Leap utilising spatial computing. Through the power of hand tracking users choose from different interactive spheres to both discover, and bring to life, some of the first prehistoric creatures that roamed our earth and seas. Utilising plane detection for walls and floors, the animals spawn and animate around your environment, with sea creatures swimming past you and flying dinosaurs jumping off the walls!

The project uses the latest technologies available. By using hand tracking, we allow users to do away with controllers and clucky UI, entering a more organic and natural virtual environment.

The experience is driven by a powerful voiceover from David Attenborough and uses ultra-realistic real-time animation sequences, created by a leading team of palaeontologists, modellers and animators. Produced as both an entertaining and educational experience, this is a project that could only be realised through Mixed Reality.

Director Statement

This production was our first step into the world of spatial computing and mixed reality, realised on the Magic Leap One headset. It’s an exciting and informative experience that lets users interact with their hands and bring to life extinct creatures that once roamed our earth. The experience is led by a powerful voiceover from natural history legend, Sir David Attenborough.

The team are really excited to enter this experience as it features techniques that were challenging to implement but game changing to play with. For example, hand tracking allows users to do away with controllers and be immersed in this organic space, activating flying dinosaurs and growling sabre tooth tigers!

Thanks for considering our experience and for advocating for the power of immersive storytelling!
