Rio's Run

The 2018 “Rio Challenge” – Rio’s Run – 1st October 2018.
Challenge: Charity Run from Melbourne to Sydney
Distance: 1,027kms
Days: 26 days
As part of Rio’s Legacy’s (RL) vision to support children with a terminal illness and their families, on the 1st October we ran from Melbourne to Sydney (over 1000kms) to raise funds for children with a terminal illness and their families. Rio (17 months old) survived 5 major operations (including 2 amputations, heart and kidney failure) only be told he had a terminal illness after all this. Bear Cottage is a children’s hospice / respite facility in Manly and if it wasn’t for this place to support Rio, we don’t know how we would have survived the passing of young Rio in January.

Australia needs more children’s hospices to help support kids with a terminal illness and their families during the most difficult time in their lives. Currently there are ONLY 3 children’s hospices / respite facilities in Australia and as such there is a desperate need for more. Rio’s Run was then completed in efforts to support and provide much needed finance for a young adults hospice similar to Bear Cottage.
