Dillon Joseph is a multifaceted creator—musician, engineer, and VR developer. During the COVID-19 quarantine, Dillon and his partner, Jennifer Alvarez, spontaneously produced the feature film Rex Bixby, capturing a unique and creative response to the challenges they both faced. After years of developing one of the world's most immersive VR platforms, which was set to premiere alongside Meow Wolf at Area 15 in Las Vegas, Dillon experienced a sudden and devastating setback. The 2020 pandemic led to the loss of his job, shutting the doors to everything he had worked tirelessly to achieve.
After a decade of many personal hardships I remember the excitement around creating an experience that would become the premiering tenant at Area 15 in Las Vegas. I knew we had something special. All the overnight shifts, blood and sweat, cutting, building, coding, flying, driving, meeting, editing. It was never ending, and the silver lining was just on the horizon, until what felt like an atomic blast obliterated my life, my job, my home. Covid struck my world and there was no going back.
Creating a feature film during the 2020 quarantine was a way to process the feeling of the world ripping my life away and dreams out of my heart. It was a way to appease the pain of falling into a well of darkness, and transform the chaos to creative inspiration during a time that felt like there was nothing left, not even hope.
