Emma Okello is a Ugandan filmmaker and director, best known for his psychological thriller Reverie (2025) starring Akena Godfrey. The film was nominated at the Uganda Film Festival 2025 and officially selected at the New York Tri-State International Film Festival.
Born on 21 September 2001 in Kampala, Uganda, Okello began his filmmaking career in 2019 as a self-taught videographer. Using only his mobile phone, he immersed himself in developing skills in cinematography, editing, and storytelling. He created multiple short films including Akia, Revelation, and the mini-series The Trap.
In 2019, he founded Phanuel ActM, an independent production company through which he produced and directed his breakout short psychological drama Hypochondriac (2024). The film garnered attention for its unique narrative and minimalist style, earning a nomination at the Uganda Film Festival.
Following the success of Hypochondriac, Okello wrote and directed Reverie (2025), further exploring psychological themes through silent visuals and evocative sound design. The film reinforced his reputation as an emerging voice in Ugandan cinema.
As Phanuel ActM continues to grow, Emma Okello remains committed to crafting films that resonate deeply — not just as entertainment, but as art that heals, questions, and transforms. His story is still unfolding.
