Director Statement

Ergüder’s lifelong obsession with necropolitics and totalitarianism led her to explore trauma, place, identity and the link between fear and desire. Her hybrid approach to cinema questions the strict categorization of film modes and genres. She enjoys breaking cinematic rules. Ergüder’s narrative work is freely infused with many of these experimental elements. She is always seeking alternatives to the linearity of narrative construction. In this realm whether experimental or narrative conjoined story fragments challenge the viewer to form a narrative linkage.

She approach filmmaking from an artist’s perspective incorporating her knowledge of art, music and photography all of which is coupled with an obsessive creative inquisitiveness. She is compressing a film’s drama into a brief space of time. For her ‘short form’ is the poetry of cinema and not a way station to a feature length film.

She will continue to explore what is just beyond the frame…
