The Reno Comedy Film Festival is a bi-annual event (Spring and Fall) in Nevada. The judges select independent international comedy films for a live audience and screen them at the West Wind El Rancho 4 Drive-In Theater. Categories include every flavor of comedy film that you can imagine. Animated Comedy, Black Comedy, Dark Comedy, Mockumentary, Romantic Comedy, Horror Comedy, Funny Music videos and Comedy Series Episodes that are 30 minutes or less are eligible. This event also announces 44+ awards for films, screenplays, videos and more.

The Reno Comedy Film Festival Spring 2021 screened on March 27, 2021. Submissions are open for the Fall 2021 event that will take place on September 25.

All films and screenplays are eligible, regardless if they have distribution or not. All submissions are eligible even if they have been accepted to other film festivals. All films and videos are eligible, regardless of when or where they were produced. Even if your film, series episode or music video is publicly available on YouTube or Vimeo, it is still eligible for submission. For exhibition purposes. all films are expected to provide a download link, so that we can compile and project them in Cinema 2k 2048x1080. 23.976, 24, 25 or 30 frame rates are accepted and will be converted to 23.976 for projection. Please do not submit 720p or Standard Definition films to this festival. The judges read and rate scripts for this specific competition only. Submitting to this film festival does not affect the ownership or copyright your screenplay or teleplay.

Wrapped with how Mikel and his team ran things. They kept me posted on how my submissions were going, and also suggested things for how to present my projects on FilmFreeway as I am quite new to this website. In the end we were stoked we had one project win "Funniest Music Video" and another selected as a finalist in another category. Sad not to be able to attend the event, but very excited they were screened! Highly recommend and will be back in the future :)

Teleplay: Dark Comedy Series Episode
This category is reserved for short teleplays that are on the darker side of the comedy genre. Sometimes referred to as “Black Comedy” these films have a sick sense of humor and may not be suitable for mainstream festivals. Oftentimes these stories end with the death of a character or have some strange gruesome scenes. Dark comedy films can make you laugh and cringe at the same time. If your audience laughs and then says “that’s messed up,” then you’ve probably written something pretty dark. This event has selected dark comedy screenplays that feature strange cruelty, or feature characters that are trying to get rid of a dead body, or they accidentally poison the wrong person, or even dream of murders, dark situations and revenge with strange dark comedic elements. Submissions to the Teleplay Dark Comedy Series Episode category must be less than 60 pages in length.
