Special Mention
Chris was born in Chesterfield, Derbyshire and studied journalism at The University of Sheffield. His recent short films include the documentaries 'Perfectionery' and 'Haxey Hood' which focus on small knit communities in the north of England. Modern gothic short 'Remnants' is his first narrative short as writer / director.
'Remnants' originated from an overheard tale of Northern English folklore. At the time of writing, and still now, the idea of a disappearing home, somewhere that is one minute safe and then the next a threat, is one that chimed with the news agenda.
In 'Remnants', the idea of power and how easily that can be exploited is a path that the film also looks to tread alongside a fascination both with the foreboding English countryside and an affection for gothic horror stories.
'Remnants' was produced by Sheffield-based Jumpcut Studios and shot in the Peak District National Park in 2021. It was crowdfunded via Greenlit.com and we are thankful to all our donors for making the film possible.
