Remembering Marrakech is a collaboration between Israeli students from Sapir College and Moroccan students from MU6P University. In a first of its kind exchange program between Jewish and Muslims, the students went through an extensive academic on-line course focusing on the research of the Jewish community in Marrakech. Then the Israeli students traveled to Marrakech for filming, while the Moroccan students traveled to Israel to finish the editing.
This joint effort exemplifies the power of co-production in transcending cultural boundaries. Together, the students embarked on a remarkable journey and formed unique partnerships, fostered within a space that allowed diverse perspectives and enabled a rich exchange of ideas, skills, and experiences.
"Remembering Marrakech" is a compelling documentary collage, created through a first of its kind collaboration between Israeli students from Sapir College and Moroccan students from MU6P University.
Despite the cultural boundaries between the students, this co-production allowed space that resulted a rich exchange of ideas, skills, and experiences. And so, the film sheds light on the rich cultural legacy of the Jewish community in Marrakech, through the eyes of Muslim as well as Jewish filmmakers.
In days of political turmoil and heightened tensions between Israel and the Arab world, this collaborative effort lays foundations to bridge divides, cultivate empathy, and promote peaceful coexistence through the shared language of art and storytelling.
