Traditioinal circular small-drum players in Burma is male domimant position according to the culture and religious norms. This small drums player is acting the conductor role of the whole crews as well. Woman are hardly get this position in the band. This film is showing about how a woman leading with the burmese traditional music band (Burmese name Sine-Wine) and the collaboratiion between all the other instrument players.

Director Biography - Thet Oo Maung

I’ve being working as a documentary filmmaker since 2012. I made many documentary films which are reflecting the social, political and environmental issues in Myanmar/Burma. I am also work as a photographer to raise the voice of marginalized community. I start the “One Step Film Forum” in 2019 to promote the humanity with films. This is the unique space in Myanmar to watch the films together which are reflecting the current issues and making dialogue and discussion with the participants. To be conclude, making films, screening films, create discussion and dialogue in community, taking photos, exhibit to raise the voice of people and recording the people stories are main part of my works.

Director Statement

The gender equality and women empowerment are speaking louder in Myanmar community nowadays. Women have a critical role to play in the development of Myanmar, but they face a broad range of challenges because of the traditional and culture norms. Some position in community are totally ban the women to take the leading role. Burmese traditional music band which widely known as Sine-Wine have long practice of male dominent. I am showing in this film, if we give the equal opportunity to the women, they can perform as good as men or better than men.
