RegenCities
RegenCities is a research initiative that seeks to define the regenerative city—a concept of urban development built on a restorative relationship with the environment. Moving beyond sustainability, the initiative seeks to transform our understanding of the built environment—specifically urban centers—from a linear construct to one that is circular. With a network of uncommon collaborators, the RegenCities initiative is identifying, targeting, and developing projects that can make communities more equitable, efficient, and livable.
A regenerative city facilitates equitable prosperity. RegenCities seeks to develop a new model for equitable economic development by leveraging existing community assets. With contributions from Policylink, KAOS Network, Sustainable Development Partners and the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, this video explores how we can build economic stability and catalyze a virtuous cycle of job creation and empowerment.
A regenerative city is open and accessible. How we design our streets, workplaces, and cities influences the way we use them. With contributions from the Center for Active Design, State of Place and the Los Angeles Department of Transportation, this video explores how we can build communities to improve access to health, happiness and opportunity.
A regenerative city is never hungry. Local food production can not only improve public health, but also empower the community and expand economic opportunities. With contributions from MIT Media Lab’s Open Agriculture Initiative, Solution for Urban Ag, Ron Finley, and the Los Angeles Trade Technical College, this video explores how we can leverage nutrition to expand prosperity for local communities.
