Call for films and audiovisual productions!

We are thrilled to announce the 16th Regard Bleu Ethnographic Film Festival at the Ethno-graphic Museum at the University of Zurich! With this edition, we invite you to Enter (the) Space — we dare you to step beyond the familiar and dive into the unexpected!

What does Enter (the) Space mean?

We are looking for films and audiovisual works that explore the uncharted territories of human experience: Spaces that incite, irritate, or inspire us. These are the in-between realms where we encounter the unknown, challenge our perceptions, and discover surprising connections.

As we navigate diverse social contexts, we often find ourselves in puzzling places. We reach zones where we are pushed to engage with new ideas and perspectives.
What do these spaces look like? Who and what inhabits them? How do we navigate their complexities? And most importantly, how can they enrich our understanding of the world?

The Regard Bleu Ethnographic Film Festival itself embodies this interspace. It bridges filmmakers and audiences, arts and sciences, ideas and approaches. It is a vibrant platform of encounter and dialogue.

Are you ready to share your vision?

If you have a captivating audiovisual student production created within the last four years, we want to see it! From classic documentaries to experiments that challenge the genre: We wel-come works from the social sciences as much as from the arts and other disciplines. This is your chance to showcase your work and contribute to a dialogue that transcends bounda-ries.

Submit your film now on FilmFreeway!
Join us in this exciting exploration of spaces that challenge, inspire, and connect! The call is open until January — please read the submission guidelines carefully.

Enter (the) Space and let us explore and embrace the experience.

Regard Bleu Ethnographic Film Festival

A Film Festival Organized by Students for Students

Regard Bleu is an ethnographic film festival held biennially at the Ethnographic Museum at the University of Zurich. Over the years, the festival has grown into an interdisciplinary platform for ethnographic and socially relevant films from a broad range of fields and institutions. The festival not only showcases films, but also aims to further a critical engagement with audio-visual methods. Discussions about current trends in anthropological filmmaking and beyond are a central part of the programme.

Since its first edition in 2001, Regard Bleu has always been dedicated to student productions. Since 2016 the festival has been conceptualized and run by students at the ISEK (Department of Social Anthropology and Cultural Studies) in collaboration with the Ethnographic Museum at the University of Zurich.

The festival showcases ethnographic student films and media and is dedicated to fresh and aspiring audio-visual projects from the social sciences as well as from arts and film schools. We welcome a broad variety of films and media. Over previous editions, the festival has grown into an inspiring event promoting exchange across disciplines and genres on the current trends in ethnographic filmmaking. Regard Bleu offers a platform for the discussion about students’ works with other students, professionals, and the public. Therefore, we particularly encourage young filmmakers and ethnographic researchers to submit their debut feature!

The University of Zürich and its Faculty of Philosophy, invite students of visual anthropology, ethnographic or documentary films, and any other discipline to submit their works covering aspects of contemporary cultures and societies from any geographical region. Regard Bleu offers a platform for discussion about students’ works with other students, professionals, and the public. Therefore, we particularly encourage young filmmakers and ethnographic researchers to submit their debut feature!
Projects will be accepted in any length and language; however, English subtitles must be provided. Films must not be older than 5 years. Filmmakers/producers are allowed to submit one project only.
