Reflected
This experimental film is the visual representation and exploration of poetry and dance. The filmmakers will use mirrors to recreate the theme of introspection and reflection expressed in the poem and seen through dance. This film shows the connection between the hidden language of dance and the eloquent words in poetry.
The movement will be contemporary ballet and modern-based with gestural experimentation. It will focus on the physicality and fluidity in the body. The primary initiation points in the movement will be the hips, spine, and limbs. The three different levels of space (high, middle, low) will be introduced with different camera angles in relationship to the choreography.
I equate my dance and choreographic style to the great painter, Salvador Dali. My abstract gestural experimentation is heavily influenced by the Surrealist arts movement. My choreographic voice focuses on oppositional narratives. For this film my desire is to create an avant garde physical work that mirrors the pulse of one’s introspective confessions. This will be conveyed with my movement, poetry, camera angles, and with the use of mirrors. I aim to create a thought provoking artistically bold work that explores movement abstraction within screen dance, and experimental filmmaking techniques.
POEM:
THE PERSISTENCE OF MEMORY (RESPECT TO DALI)
My mind shares a common nature
With that of mirrors.
Constantly reflecting what's in my direct vision
Clearly and unapologetically.
These two share a bond that which I cannot break,
Even though I have tried so many times.
Their relationship is pure and true,
And honestly, I envy the two.
Because, according to both of them,
They're supposed to be me and you.
You for me.
Me for you.
Us
Reflecting We.
