Shot almost entirely on location at the BFI IMAX, and for a modest budget of £2000, Reel Talk tells the story of Isaac, a young man stuck in a desk job who struggles to find the joy in anything. One day, Isaac agrees to go to the cinema with an old uni friend, Dave, but gets more than just a movie as he finds himself thrust into a life-changing conversation of cosmic proportions.

Reel Talk is directly inspired by My Dinner with Andre (1981) and the one thing that always stuck with me when I first saw Louis Malle’s film was the suggestion that Wally's and Andre’s big conversation led to another conversation between Wally and his girlfriend Debbie. It is this idea, about the contagiousness of conversation, the power of it, that Reel Talk seeks to build upon and explore further.

Films such as this, that focus primarily on conversation, seem to be in short supply these days. Perhaps it’s because we feel that conversation isn’t dramatic enough. Yet, in the mundanity of everyday life, I’d argue that a good conversation can be one of the most dramatic things to happen to you, and that’s what I hope to show with Reel Talk.
