A queer sci-fi / fantasy / horror writer in television, film, and new media, Mario began his career co-creating, writing and directing the Mark Cuban produced web series THE VAULT, which garnered millions of views and awards recognition.
He went on to co-write and co-directed the psychological thriller feature CIRCLE which was acquired by Netflix. The film went on to become a cult hit, frequently included on "Best of Indie Sci-Fi and Horror" lists to this day. Mario will serve as co-producer on the film's sequel, shooting this fall.
Next, he co-created the streaming anthology series DARK/WEB which was acquired by Amazon. He served as showrunner, producer, and series writer, as well as wrote and directed one of the anthology episodes. The show earned 7 Daytime Emmy nominations including Best Digital Drama Series and Best Directing Team.
Mario also co-wrote the social horror film MADRES for Blumhouse. That film debuted on Amazon as part of the WELCOME TO THE BLUMHOUSE series and earned him an NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding Writing in a Television Movie or Special.
As an indie filmmaker, I’ve always tried to find ways to tell compelling stories on a limited (or non-existent budget).
I believe that one of the best ways to do that is by focusing; focusing on character (like two siblings looking for another moment with their father), focusing on the strange (like a weird little box that may or may not be communicating with the dead).
That was my goal with RED LIGHT GREEN LIGHT, to keep things simple, creepy and hopefully, compelling.
I hope you enjoy it.
