Álvaro Guzmán Bastida (Pamplona, 1990) is a Spanish-born, Brooklyn-based filmmaker, screenwriter and nonfiction writer.
He directed and co-wrote the documentary short "This is Not a Love Story" (2016), and wrote the documentary short "Liminal Time" (2020). Most recently, while completing his MFA in Film Directing and Screenwriting at Columbia University, he directed the short films "Recoba" (2020) and the upcoming "The Distance to Nebraska" (currently in post-production).
As a producer, he has worked at Al Jazeera English and was an Associate Producer in the Netflix Documentary series "Unnatural Selection" (2019) and "Immigration Nation" (2020). He holds an M.S. in Journalism and an M.A. in Politics and Government, both from Columbia University, and has also worked a reporter and writer covering politics, economics and culture for newspapers and magazines such as CTXT and El País, in Spain, and others in Argentina, the UK, and the Netherlands.
He is the author of the book "Trump as a Symptom", published in 2019 by the Spanish imprint Lengua de Trapo.
