Ray Cuthbertson is a 20-year-old filmmaker in his final year at Brighton Screen and Film School. He started his filmmaking journey in 2021, with an interest in diverse stories told in an empathetic way, as well as abstract but emotive experimental art.
His first short film ‘Like in the Movies’ and short experimental film ‘rushes’ are both concerned with the act of creating itself. He has co-written with director Jesse Williams on award winning short 'One More Song’ and writes with production group OnBright each year in the Brighton 48-Hour Film Challenge.
Now, his graduate film ‘Ed’, a queer comedy-drama, explores the uncomfortable dynamics of growing up in a family scared of communicating, alongside his dissertation project ‘WINTERMUTE’ which encompasses his lifelong interest in cyberpunk literature and its depictions of cyberspace, adapting the experience into an experimental short film.
He is also an avid writer and musician who writes short stories, poetry, and composes for short films.
