RAMSGATE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL, THE FESTIVAL WHERE DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION ARE A MATTER OF FACT!

BIFA accredited. Set in England's Royal Harbour, and the stunning location to multiple award winning and acclaimed TV and Film productions, the 9th Ramsgate International Film Festival will show new works and help promote film makers and cultural awareness. It has become the largest of its kind in the South East and one of the fastest growing festivals in the UK.

Our screenings are complemented by an international programme of unique events and seminars, with high profile industry professionals.

We are honoured and proud that our Patron, BAFTA, Globe and Cannes Best Actress Winner and Oscar-nominated Brenda Blethyn, will select the best feature film by a first time Director, and will be joined by Award winning guests. Past Jury members have included Nick Broomfield, Jimmy Akingbola, Andy Mayson (Altitude Films), Dee Anderson, James Payton (Harry Potter saga), Tatyana Yakovleva,...

2026 will celebrate 9 years of screening high quality films and taking care of their film-makers. A beautiful bronze Anchor is awarded to the Best Film of the festival, as well as other prizes including the Brenda Blethyn special award for Best First Feature. Screenings will take place in and around Ramsgate. With the backdrop of the stunning Royal Harbour, unique in the UK, Ramsgate also offers festival goers the opportunity to explore the area rich in culture, maritime heritage and historic architecture, as well as enjoying its waterside and cafés. The Vikings, Romans and early Christians, all first came to the UK via Ramsgate’s coast. Now, travelling by high speed train, London can be reached in 66 minutes and Paris and Brussels are only 2 hours 45 minutes away.

The Ramsgate International Film Festival also features Discussion Panels with prominent industry representatives and special curated programmes promoting international cinema.

Disability and accessibility are at the forefront of the festival's pre-occupations and talks / events will be presented to support the community. If you are disabled and have problems submitting your film, you can reach out to us on www.ramsgateiftvfest.org.

Cost of shipping DCPs and other materials to and from the Festival are the filmmakers' responsibility. Attending filmmakers may collect their DCP or material at the event after the screening.

Once programming has been established, if DCP is required (depending on venue) and the filmmaker does not have a DCP, the Festival can arrange for a DCP to be created from a .mov or .mp4 at 24fps or 25fps in at least 1080p resolution, at the cost of UKP 50 for a short film or UKP120 for a feature film including shipping back after the event, if the filmmaker did not collect it then.

I was honored to have my short " From Here To There" selected fro the 8th edition

    Response from festival:

    Hello Remy,

Thank you very much for your review and we're thrilled you felt honoured about the selection.
However, I'm not quite sure how to understand your scoring so we can better ourselves in our less performant areas:
    - your film was invited by the festival (i.e. you received a full fees waiver, so you didn't have to pay for the submission fees) as part of our wish to help promote African cinema. And we are pleased to say we had our highest number of African films in the official selection this year. You scored 4 out of 5 for value.
    - you didn't attend the festival so I'm not sure what the 3 out of 5 score for networking refers to, same with hospitality, which you score 4 out of 5.
Could you kindly contact us to explain what we could have done to warrant a better score than 3 out of 5 overall as we're always keen to improve ourselves and make the filmmakers happy and satisfied?
    Thank you in anticipation.

We are really grateful that our project, In Half, has been selected and awarded as the best animation of the festival. We want to congratulate the festival organizers for this great opportunity to showcase and embrace our work. Thank you and, without a doubt, a festival that comes highly recommended and will continue to be among the most respected in England.

  • Daniel O'Donnell

I was delighted that my Documentary Film was an Official Selection at this year's RIFF. I traveled from the USA with my sister and we thoroughly enjoyed the Festival. It was well run, the films I saw were high quality and the screenings went off technically without a hitch. I enjoyed my Q&A, which was relaxed and fun. It was a great opportunity to meet other filmmakers and lovers of independent film. Would definitely recommend this Film Festival. And Ramsgate itself was a pleasant discovery with its harbor, pubs and lovely beaches.

Thank you very much for your review, Daniel. It feels our heart to know you've come from far away and had a great time. Congratulations on a super film as well. We're looking forward to your next production!

  • Thank you to the entire team at Ramsgate International Film Festival for a wonderful experience and also for awarding my film, Remi Milligan: Lost Director best Experimental Feature. Excellent screening with good turn-out of people, great post-screening Q&A session. I was able to watch some of the other films and found the quality very high, across the board. I hope to be back one day soon with a future project.
