Director Biography - Khairi Anwar

Khairi studied law at UiTM, but he didn’t pursue a career in law. While he was studying, he was actively involved in a theatre club where he acted, wrote and directed for the stage. He first received his training as a producer in the TV/film world through an internship. After his year-long involvement in the legal industry, Khairi pursued a career as a video producer since 2017, and now, he is currently working as a freelance Director.

Khairi had an interest in film-making when he bought his first digital camera at 14 years old. He and his friends created a fun short film. Since then, he dreamt to be a film director but took law instead due to his mother’s request. He is currently active in the theatre scene with Anomalist Production, where he pushes contemporary Malaysian stories forward. He has won an award in BOH Cameronian Arts Awards (Cammies), and his play IQ.Rock got nominated as Best Of 2018 in the Cammies this year.

Although Khairi is still green in the film industry, he plans to pursue his studies in the U.S. so that he can contribute to the Malaysian film industry.
