Private Project

Rakhan

Their caste has assigned the Kharat family the occupation of goatherding, while also burdening them with profound caste-oppression. The Kharat family and their goats take us through the changing social and physical landscape of their lives in a small village of Sindhudurg, Maharashtra, from the fight to own land to their present day relationship with their higher caste neighbours. Weaved through this history is continuing resilience, community and kinship; but also also the blight of patriarchy.
