Writer Biography

Joanne Bellew is an Australian multi-award-winning, wife and mother of two, who writes features and TV in the drama, comedy, and romantic comedy spaces. She believes there is often an undiscovered or untapped hero in everyone and enjoys writing everyday stories of characters working through their brave and sometimes comedic paths to enlightenment. In her screenplays, she endeavours to show her characters breaking through to the pure soul at the core of every human to overcome their trials. A touch of comical insanity can often be found in Joanne's screenplays, because she also strongly believes that laughter is truly one of our greatest healers.

Her Rom Com feature, MOJO, reached Semi-Finalist at the 2023 Austin Film Festival. Her short film, UN VIOLON, won Silver in the 2023 Page Awards. Her childhood buddy feature, THE BRACELETS, made Top 10 in the 2021 Final Draft Big Break, and Joanne's feature ONCE UPON A CHRISTMAS IN HOLLYVILLE made Semi-Finalist in the 2024 Page Awards and her short film, YOU CANNOT SWEEP THE MOON, made Second Rounder at the 2024 Austin Film Festival.

Joanne has a script in pre-production in the US, and is currently developing a TV series with a London-based Australian Director, based on the life of a world-renowned Australian Opera Singer.
