Trevian Leigh is a queer urban contemporary television screenwriter who creates worlds featuring beautiful black and brown people who break the status quo. He's earned a BFA in Creative Writing at Full Sail University and is a recipient of a Course Director Award. Born and raised in Roanoke, Virginia, Trevian was inspired by the shenanigans he and his friends lived through. Since then, his writing has become grittier with a sense of neutral chaos.
When I was a kid, I desperately wanted to see a black, queer character on a mainstream television show. I wanted them to look like me and possess the same dreams and desires. But sadly, those characters were few and far in between. Fast forward almost a decade later, I was attending Full Sail University when I realized I could write the stories I wanted to read. I could create the shows with people like me—strong and brave, loved yet flawed. I could bring realistic black and brown queer people to the screen so the generations after me could see themselves actively engaging in society—thriving outside of the closet.
I write because I have stories to tell. I have questions to ask and narratives that resonate beyond my peer group. Rainbow Connection is the culmination of my dreams to show black and brown queer people thriving, fumbling, and living. Regardless of one’s gender identity or race, we all share in the human search for inspiration, the need to belong without having to compromise, and to be celebrated… flaws and all.
