Roots in the Concrete

"Roots in the Concrete" is a documentary that follows the life of Albertina Moña, a Wounaan indigenous woman displaced by the Colombian armed conflict, who struggles to preserve her identity in Bogotá. Originally from Chocó, Albertina faces uprooting in the city, where she finds not only a source of income but also a spiritual connection to her land and ancestral culture through the creation of Werregue baskets.

Through the crafting of these artisanal pieces, Albertina and her community keep the rich Wounaan tradition alive, where each design and weave is infused with spiritual meaning. The documentary explores how these seemingly simple objects represent an act of cultural resistance and a bridge between the past and the present, allowing the Wounaan to maintain their identity amid the urban chaos.

"Roots in the Concrete" is a tribute to cultural and spiritual resilience, showing how art can serve as an anchor in times of crisis and a powerful tool for preserving ancestral heritage in a challenging environment.
