Radiotherapy
'Radiotherapy' speaks of Debbie James’, (The Outsiders Project), memory of radiotherapy treatment whilst experiencing childhood cancer.
”I was diagnosed with bone cancer at the age of 10.
I was given approximately 6 months to live.
A lot has changed since my experience in the ’80s, but the fundamental struggles, doubts and fears are still relevant today.”
In creating this piece, animator Corrianna Clarke and sound producer Jo Tyler took involved direction and participation from writer Debbie James throughout. The process of animation production with communities at the helm - who may have little to no experience of working with visual arts and creative use of sound - was explored through this partnership of neurodiverse women.
Group-led creative workshops, skill sharing, and most importantly a long-developing bond of trust, tears and joy was integral in this experimental approach to socially engaged animation production.
