About the Director: Pierre Gaffié
Filmmaker | Director | Journalist | Screenwriter | Teacher
As of August 2019, his most recent films have been Officially Selected and screened in 140+ Film Festivals worldwide, and those films have received 35+ awards.
After studying philosophy and cinema (with the anthropologist Raymonde Hebraud-Carasco), he embarked in radio journalism (RFM), Télé (France 3), in the program "La vie à plein temps," but became more famous when he presented the cinema chronicles of "Nowhere else" on Canal + for four years, alongside Philippe Gildas and Antoine de Caunes.
He was awarded the "Jeune et brillant" prize for the best television critic at the 1991 Cannes Film Festival.
In 2002, he produced for France 3, the only adaptation of the book by Kathrine Kressmann Taylor: "Unknown at this address," a 26' film directed by Sandrine Treiner and François Chayé.
Since 2005, he has hosted the program "Obliques" sur Fréquence protestante (Protestant Frequency), where he has received; comedians (Françoise Fabian, Marisa Paredes, Andréa Ferréol); filmmakers (Jean-Jacques Beineix, Miranda July, René Féret, Nicolas Philibert, Ny, André Téchiné); as well as conductors (Michael Ballhaus, Philippe Rousselot); the Bernie Bonvoisin musicians, Bernie Bonvoisin; and, writers, Michel Chion.
He regularly collaborates in the Quarterly Versus Cinema. He has also published articles in the daily Libération (Rebounds pages), Positif magazine (March 2011), Split Screen, and Untitled (UK).
With his company, Différent, he presented a new film, "The City with Dolphin Walls" ("The Dolphin Skin City"). The movie version was dedicated to and includes an excerpt from the song, Curtains, by Peter Gabriel. The film, a variation on the love of architecture and the architecture of love, has screened in a score of countries and won the Best Drama Award at the Media Festival (Pennsylvania) in April 2016, and at Encino (California) at Back in the Box."
Another short film, "Relativity Explained to Children" (9') won the Audience and Jury Prize at the short film festival of Lussac (France), and the Bronze Award at the Lansing Festival of Nations (Austria).
The music is signed by Béatrice Thiriet (composer; including the soundtrack of the film, "The Lover of Lady Chatterley" by Pascale Ferran).
Since April 2012, he has been hosting a film show on the IF Télévision channel dedicated to independent cinema.
He also currently teaches cinema at EFAP Paris and at ICART Paris.
His film "20 meters of love in Montmartre," a short film without words on urban loneliness and the recourse to the art, gets the prize of the Best Foreign Film at the Lit Film Festival in Limerick (Ireland).
In 2017, he participates with the editions of "L'Harmattan," with the collective work "Egonline," a reflection on the vogue of selfies.
In 2018, he made a diptych on the feminine word. First, the short film “Constance, A Symphony of Kisses” love variation on the world of espionage (the film includes an allusion to Francis Ford Coppola's "Secret Conversation"). The French narrative voice of the film is told by Emmanuèle Bondeville, who regularly doubles Michelle Pfeiffer, Glenn Close or "Experts" characters. And in early winter, the second film - Radio Lune - addresses the theme of the nocturnal radio speech and the repair it brings to the listener AND to the host. The main character is played by Marilyne Fontaine, seen by Jacques Doillon. Pierre won the grand jury prize at the "Cut to the Chase" Film Festival (West Virginia), and both films continue to entertain audiences around the globe.
The monthly "L'avant-scène cinéma" entrusted him with the writing of a substantive text on the actress Emilie Dequenne, on the occasion of the release of the issue devoted to the film "Pas son genre" by Lucas Belvaux.
The plans for 2019 include a worldwide premiere of the feature film, “Dragonfly Canvas” or Canevas de Libellules, sponsored by Patrice Leconte and Cartoonist Olivier Jiho is expected, followed by a feature in 2020 on musician, songwriter, actor, and record producer, Phil Collins.
