Rachel Arena is an artist and filmmaker living and working in Los Angeles. Her work is cross-disciplinary, using painting, photography, printmaking, and time-based media to describe the nature of longing and memories of touch. She has a B.F.A. from the Rhode Island School of Design in Film/ Animation/ Video.
Rachel Arena's film, "Passing," acts as a memorial to her father and engages the viewer with her experience of family, loss, and personal memory. She uses a photo-transfer technique to capture traces of the video footage of her home. A soundscape cut from home videos mimics the noises of an active house with static that keeps it distant in the past. The fall of a coat considers the irreversibility of loss.
