Director Biography - Sean Sawyer

Sean's love for writing began with an idea for a screenplay in 2008. After starting his production company, Stop and Watch Films, Sean produced the screenplay into the short film, Runaway Slave. This production, he says, was his introduction to storytelling and that through the making of that project he learned the importance of telling a good story, which is pivotal for an audience to be challenged and entertained. Sawyer wrote and directed two follow-up feature films, White Boy Brown in 2010 and Pocket Full of Nickels in 2012. Sawyer has broadened his passion for writing with his debut fiction novella 'From This Tiny Window' now available on Amazon Kindle and paperback.

Director Statement

In the age of clever headlines, regurgitated tweets, and an astronomical amount of news literally at our fingertips, we are bound to get some wrong information. But when we do get that wrong information, there’s usually little concern for the repercussions of passing on that wrong information to others. We’ve sometimes, unwittingly, become judge, jury, and community executioners, blacklisting individuals, institutions, and even ideas because of that tainted information presented as fact.

RURI (Roar) is a feature-length film highlighting one of the consequences of an unconfirmed story told to others, and the tragic effect it causes after being spread throughout a community. RURI is a word in the Hausa language that means to roar or to make a loud noise.
