Their storytelling through detailed choreography has permeated beyond the dance world and into theatre, music, film and online platforms. While coming from a dance background, their approach to theatre and filmmaking by utilizing human movement in visual and emotional ways, alongside their inventive dance vocabulary, has allowed their work to connect to many.
Notable work includes: Disney’s animated short “Us Again,” Broadway theater shows, starring/choreographing Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself” music video, BTS, Billie Eilish, Ed Sheeran, Flying Lotus & Kendrick Lamar, nominations for best choreography at the MTV Video Music Awards and the UK Video Music Awards, Cirque, “World of Dance,” “So You Think You Can Dance,” “Dancing With the Stars,” Netflix, Nike, Timberland, Beats By Dre, several Kpop artists, viral videos, multiple champions at major dance competitions and more. Their online work has amassed over billions of views.
Most recently, Keone and Mari directed and choreographed their first Broadway musical “Once Upon A One More Time” becoming the first Filipino directors on Broadway. They also co-created, directed and choreographed their Off-Broadway theater dance show, “Beyond Babel” which was a New York Times pick and nominated for 2 Drama Desk Awards, while also choreographing/fight-choreographing the Broadway-bound “The Karate Kid” musical. Additionally “Us Again,” a Disney animated short film told entirely through music and dance, was shortlisted for an Academy Award and won the NAACP Image Award for Animated Short Film. They were included as choreographers and story partners. “Lolo,” a documentary short film that they produced and directed, received awards at numerous film festivals and played at Oscar-qualifying festivals.
This is a mental health piece, dressed in a dark comedy, that dances on a sci-fi stage. As dancers, parents, and people who battle with their own mental health, this piece is not just close to home... it's in our home. This was also us facing some terrifying questions during covid, that coincidentally became relevant during the rise of AI. Or ai. Do we capitalize it/them? Anyway, battling against relevancy can become existentially dangerous. Am I good enough? Am I well enough? Am I… enough? And what better way to ask these heavy questions through the ridiculousness of dancing robots (played by some of the best dancers in the world) and a childlike perspective that can remind us what living life is all about.
