REX is back for its 8th year! As usual, we will continue to bring the most exciting European animation to Stockholm, Sweden. Dates for the main festival are October 29-November 6 and our main venue for the physical festival will again be beautiful Zita Folkets Bio!

In addition to the main physical festival, we plan for an online festival and a series of additional special screening formats to bring animation to a wider audience during the autumn of 2022.

The festival presents animated shorts and feature films from Europe and also includes a rich program of workshops, talks, and the Rex Animation Student Award, an annual award for Swedish student productions. REX also has a section dedicated to kids!

The Open Call is for animated shorts produced in Europe. The application for REX Animation Student Award is open exclusively for Swedish student productions.

Rex is the only film festival in Sweden dedicated purely to animated films at this time. Rex Animation Film Festival was initiated by Stockholm’s European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) in 2015. The festival is growing every year and offers a varied and colourful program of European animated short and feature films for both adults and young people.

REX Animation Film Festival is arranged by Föreningen REX Animationsfestival, in collaboration with EUNIC Stockholm. REX 2022 is currently arranged with support from Stockholm stad.

Selection process
The final selection will be made from the films received via the open call in combination with additional curation.

REX Animation Audience Award

The selected short films will be in competition for the REX Audience Award for best European Animated Short. The winner will be announced Friday, November 5, and online the week after the festival.
