Director Statement

We live in a time flooded with sexual imagery. But despite that, because these images are so violent and omnipresent, I think that inner eroticism is drowning and disappearing more and more.
"Retards" explores sexual power dynamics and kinks within a crumbling relationship. I have taken inspiration from the incel movement of today and the classical timeless male fear of castration and weakness. Aesthetically though, it has been my goal to create sexual tension without graphic imagery, letting the audience create the fantasy within their minds. In this way I try to combine old school 40s era storytelling with modern everyday sexuality.
